Car Darts
Episode Summary & Review
Summary
Shamelessly borrowing their filming style from 24, Jeremy attempts to drive an Audi A8 diesel engine 800 miles to Edinburgh and back on one tank of petrol. James races a StreetKa with a sophisticated satellite navigation system against a professional homing pigeon. Jeremy and Richard play darts with cars and a compressed gas cannon in a quarry. The new Porsche Carrera GT is tested to see whether it can break the lap record on the Top Gear track. The Star in a Reasonably Priced Car is three times World Champion snooker ace, Ronnie ‘The Rocket’ O’Sullivan.
Our Take
This is Top Gear at its most glefully stupid, and the car darts segment alone justifies the whole hour. The A8 fuel economy run borrows the 24 style without overdoing it, and O’Sullivan turns out to be surprisingly good company. The StreetKa versus pigeon race is filler, but a small price to pay for the rest.
