Dragon Slayer
Episode Summary & Review
Summary
The S.C.U. investigates the death of a college student. Initially deemed a suicide, the team discovers the boy’s death was in fact a drug fueled homicide. With Backstrom’s unorthodox investigative techniques, the team must utilize all of their individual skills and work together to catch the killer. Meanwhile, Backstrom’s doctor Deb Chaman threatens to fail him on his physical if he doesn’t start making healthy choices, and prescribes him to make one new friend.
Our Take
Rainn Wilson does his best with a character who’s basically House as a cop, all insults and self-sabotage with none of the charm. The case resolves too neatly, and the supporting squad gets barely a scene each to register. It’s watchable in a forgettable, mid-2010s procedural way, but the pilot gives you little reason to come back for episode two.
