Mr. Bean, a selfish man child with a tweed jacket and a turkey on his head, navigates ordinary life as a series of slow burning catastrophes, and almost every gag lands because Atkinson’s face and body do the work silent film stars would envy.
Fifteen episodes. That is all it took to become globally immortal, watched by hundreds of millions who share no language at all. The Christmas episode, the exam, the park bench lunch: comedy stripped to its purest form. The finest example of visual comedy ever made for television.
