Our Take
A darker case of the week gives this episode more bite than the pilot’s sweetness, and the funeral home setting suits the show’s morbid whimsy nicely. The plot mechanics around Emerson learning Chuck’s secret feel a bit convenient, but the cast’s chemistry papers over most of it. Solid, if slightly less charming than what came before. Worth your time if you’re already on board.
