The Gang returns. The longest running live action comedy in American history works because of one beautiful rule: no one learns anything, ever. Five of the worst people alive run a bar and scheme, and the show’s refusal to ever let them grow or succeed is the engine of 18 plus seasons of escalating depravity.

Charlie Kelly is a top three sitcom character of all time (Dayman, Nightman, milk steak, the whole mythology), Frank’s descent from Danny DeVito into garbage person is legendary, and the bottle episodes (The Gang Gets Analyzed, Timeshare) are masterclasses. Start anywhere after season 2 when Frank arrives; the run from season 4 to 9 is the golden age.

It is mean, dark, and the funniest live action comedy still running.

Our take: 9/10. The Gang wins again.
