Our Review
Alex Cross has been solving crimes in print since the early nineties, and screen versions have never quite pinned him down. This series gets closer than most, handing the detective psychologist to Aldis Hodge, who brings a stillness and gravity to a character too often reduced to a silhouette in the movies.
The DC setting is used like a character itself, and the cases lean into psychological warfare rather than routine forensics. When a killer starts toying with Cross personally, the show locks in as a cat and mouse thriller with genuine dread in it. The formula is familiar, but the execution is confident and the pacing rarely slackens.
It does lean on the crime thriller playbook more than it should, and a few supporting characters stay thinner than they deserve. Even so, Hodge is compelling enough to carry the weight, and the season arcs give him room to actually change rather than simply solve.
Our score: 7.5/10. If you want a sleek detective thriller with a lead worth trusting, this is an easy yes for tonight.
