Picard encounters the leader of a civilization which communicates only in metaphor.
Our Take
A clever premise episode that mostly earns its reputation, built around Patrick Stewart and Paul Winfield acting across a language barrier with nothing but gesture and patience. Some of the Enterprise subplot stuff with the Tamarian ship drags and feels like padding. Still, the final scene on the planet delivers one of the season’s more genuinely moving payoffs, and it’s worth your time.
